In April, Royal Bodewes in Foxhol proudly celebrated the christening of the Hawaikinui2! This 87-meter-long RORO ferry was completed in the waters of the Winschoterdiep. DROMEC supplied and installed the winches on board this innovative vessel – a remarkable project within the maritime sector!

Robust electric anchor winch

For this vessel, DROMEC delivered a powerful electric anchor winch with chain stoppers. This system effortlessly handles the heavy anchor chain of two times 38 mm. With a pulling force of 7 tons and a holding force of 53 tons, the installation ensures that the anchors – each weighing no less than 1,845 kg – are always secured safely and reliably.

Two electric mooring winches

The two electric mooring winches are also an essential part of the equipment. With a pulling force of 5.1 tons and a holding force of 15 tons, these winches provide the power and precision required to berth the ferry smoothly and reliably.

Hawaikinui

The name Hawaikinui refers to a legendary Polynesian canoe race: an annual three-day competition with six-person canoes. This race symbolizes teamwork, strength, and perseverance – values that are also at the heart of this shipbuilding project and DROMEC’s equipment. The ferry will transport both cargo and a small number of passengers.
