Henk Bakker: ‘All about people’
the motto of DROMEC’s Operations Director!

Henk excels at appreciating and empowering people. He is a warm personality with a strong commitment to the company and, in his role, a sparring partner for everyone at DROMEC.
“That doesn’t only show in compliments, but also in constructive feedback,” Henk says with a twinkle in his eye. It is one of his strongest qualities, enabling him to intrinsically motivate the people at DROMEC to perform at their best. “My personal mission within DROMEC is to create the ability for people to address each other openly, without hurting one another.”
Henk is primarily responsible for personnel and internal process monitoring. In addition, he plays a leading role in shaping the future plans for DROMEC’s new building.
Personal coach
For the personal development of our people, he uses a specific tool.
Henk explains: “For some time now I have been working with Energy Drives. With this program we really go in depth and carry out a colour analysis. What is your intrinsic motivation? We conduct a scan to see what drives you as a person and how this functions within the organisation. Afterwards we discuss the results to give them meaning.
Starting from each individual’s core values, we can look at how someone functions and take steps towards the future to strengthen each other within the team. Who are you within DROMEC and how can you perform at your best? Where do your motivation, deepest beliefs and driving forces lie?
It’s great to see what gives people energy and to translate that into concrete changes in their role. That’s when people start to shine, and you see a junior grow into a mentor or senior.”
Company culture
At DROMEC we have a company culture where there is room for your talents and where you are encouraged to think in solutions yourself. These are great opportunities that allow us to continuously challenge ourselves. The chance to grow as a company is very valuable. At the same time, we must ensure that we safeguard quality and protect ourselves.
“That is why I act as the central point of contact internally for every team within DROMEC, across the entire organisation. Internal organisation is truly a key focus for me: from sales to service. Every person has their place in the bigger picture, and what do we stand for together? These are identity questions we like to discuss to strengthen the DROMEC DNA. Team-building activities and company outings are also a great extension of this. You see each other in different roles, which creates connection.”
“In this context, I like to talk about ownership: make your craftsmanship and technical capabilities not only something you want to be, but something that defines who you are – within DROMEC. We don’t have any bad apples here, but sometimes you encounter weak spots, and we address them directly. After all, an honest story only leaves you wanting more.”
New company building
Henk has his roots in the construction industry, which will be very valuable for the future. He acts as coordinator and point of contact regarding the construction of DROMEC’s new building.
“Here as well, we like to involve our people in thinking about their new working environment. We want to realise it together and create engagement by sharing our plans. And with a mischievous smile: ‘At least we all agree on the design; it will look like a cable drum lying on its side – we’re looking forward to it!’”
