Electric winches to Royal Bodewes
for vessels Molvik and Jorvik

Branche: Shipbuilding
DROMEC supplied Royal Bodewes with electrically driven winches for the cement carriers Molvik and Jorvik. Both vessels were fitted with an electric anchor winch (two lifters, 34 mm) including chain stoppers and two 50 kN mooring winches. With a nominal pulling force of 5,600 kg, the project reinforces DROMEC’s delivery reliability and quality.
Royal Bodewes and the cement carrier series
Royal Bodewes, based in Hoogezand, specializes in the construction of multifunctional cargo vessels. Recently, the vessel Jorvik was launched at the shipyard’s Ritsema location – the final ship in a series of eight self-discharging cement carriers. The complete series was built for the Cypriot shipping company Eureka Shipping.
Electric winches
For the approximately 90-metre-long cement carriers Molvik and Jorvik, DROMEC had the opportunity to supply electrically driven winches. The following equipment has been installed on both vessels:
- An anchor winch with 2 cable lifters (34 mm), including matching chain stoppers
- Two mooring winches of 50 kN
The anchor winches have a nominal pulling force of 5,600 kg and are fully electrically driven.
Cement carriers
Unlike six earlier – partially ice-strengthened – vessels in the same series, Jorvik and her sister ship Molvik do not have an ice class. Both vessels are equipped with Lovik installations for mechanical loading (up to 1,000 tonnes per hour) and pneumatic unloading (250 tonnes per hour).

“We notice that we are building a reputation when it comes to delivery reliability and quality. That is extremely valuable. With our effort to become known in the maritime sector in Northern Netherlands in the field of winches, we have grown tremendously over the past two years.”
