DROMEC delivers largest cable Spooling Machine to RSN Offshore

Branche: Spooling systems
Rigging Service Nederland (RSN) has rapidly established a strong position in the market. With major projects such as cable spooling and unspooling, service operations, wire inspection and testing, and the execution of load tests, the Vlaardingen-based company has built a solid reputation at multiple locations. RSN Offshore was the first customer of DROMEC Winches to purchase an electric 60T cable spooling machine, thereby setting a new standard in the Netherlands.
150T Cable Spooling Machine
Following a period of strong growth, RSN has once again invested and expanded its fleet with a 150T cable spooling machine, suitable for use in the USA and UL-listed. With a pre-tension capacity of up to 15T, RSN can spool and unspool crane wires and ship deck crane wires. The cable spooling machine is equipped with an extra-wide, modular frame, allowing the installation of extra-wide reels.
Remote 2.0
For this project, DROMEC also supplied a new version of its remote control. The remote features a display that presents as much relevant information as possible. This enables the operator to control multiple machines with great flexibility and allows spooling operations to be aligned even more efficiently.
Cees Drost, CEO DROMEC Winches
“From the very beginning, Daniël Haesebroeck of RSN has been truly DROMEC-minded. The cooperation is highly constructive, and he provides valuable feedback. This is important to us, as innovation is best driven by practical experience. RSN now operates an extensive fleet of cable spooling machines, including multiple units of 8T, 15T, 30T and 90T, with the 150T cable spooling machine as the latest addition.”
Core Question RSN Offshore
How can we safely, efficiently, and flexibly wind and unwind heavy crane and deck ropes, with high pre-tension force, suitable for wide reels, and compliant with international (USA/UL) standards?
Answer
DROMEC answered this question by supplying a 150T electric spooling machine that is UL-listed and suitable for use in the USA. The machine provides a pre-tension force of up to 15 tons and features an extra-wide, modular frame, enabling RSN to safely and efficiently wind and unwind heavy crane and deck ropes, including those on wide reels. In addition, the Remote 2.0 ensures maximum flexibility and improved control of the spooling process by providing the operator with extensive process information.
Frequently asked questions
What is a cable spooling machine?
A spooling machine is an installation used to wind and unwind cable or wire rope onto a reel in a controlled way, typically with adjustable speed and controlled tension.
What does “150T” mean in a spooling machine context?
150T indicates a heavy-duty class/capacity category. In this article, it refers to a machine built for demanding, professional operations involving heavy crane and deck wires.
What is pre-tension and why does “up to 15T” matter?
Pre-tension is the controlled pulling force applied during spooling. Higher pre-tension helps achieve tight, even and safer spooling—especially important for heavy crane wires and deck crane wires.
Why is an extra-wide, modular frame useful?
It allows the use of extra-wide reels and increases flexibility for different reel dimensions and operational requirements.
What does UL-listed mean and why is it relevant for USA use?
UL-listed indicates compliance with applicable UL requirements. It supports acceptance for use in markets where UL compliance is required or expected, including the USA.
What does Remote 2.0 add for operators?
Remote 2.0 provides a display showing as much relevant information as possible, helping operators align spooling operations and control multiple machines more flexibly.
Which operations does RSN use this type of machine for?
As described in the article: spooling and unspooling cables and heavy crane/deck wires, plus service operations, wire inspection/testing and load tests.
Is this type of spooling machine only used offshore?
No. These systems are also used in rigging, ports, maritime service and industrial environments where controlled cable and wire handling is required.
